Not to be all Virgin Suicides about everything, but my affection for—and allegiance to—all-white ensembles has become something close to a joke with the in-laws and my office this summer. And while the warmer months are a terrific time to break out your peppy brights, I maintain that nothing, but nothing works for (and with!) you like a little white dress. It offsets a tan, for one thing. It has a certain implied gentility, a crisp cleanliness, and a modernity to it. And it reflects the light, I suppose, in much the way that blondes will stick out in a crowd. It’s subtly eye-catching, and its outright lack of hue means it delivers just the right amount of “trying.” For example, you must try very hard not to spill anything.
Which brings us to the point: It is very nearly July. (In point of fact, next week it is July)Which means it is very nearly Heavy Monsoon Season. Which means that soon, very soon, you and I will not be able to don our whites with impunity. (Now I agree, winter whites are a “thing,” and some fashion “rules” are certainly made to be broken, but when it comes down to it, you run the risk of looking either a bit lost or like a recent convert to an obscure religion when you don all white in February.) This, my friends, is something close to our last chance in 2017. Don’t waste it!
Here, my favorite white dress, flirty to office- and evening-appropriate. However, this was clicked last year by a very dear blogger friend, Pallavi Ruhail from TDG during our quick weekend getaway to Agra’s Oberoi AmarVillas with Salvatore Ferragamo.
